As every year during the festival week, we are offering meetings directed at young people at senior high school and junior high school. On the first day of the festival – Monday, 15 May – you are invited to Teatr na Plaży at noon, when Professor David Malcolm, Dr Monika Szuba and Dr Tomasz Wiśniewski, long-term co-organizers of the festival, will hold a joint lecture session entitled “Short Forms.Fragments.” This aims to set out the central theme of the Eighth Between.Pomiędzy Festival of Literature and Theatre. Right after the lecture, there will be a special session with Antoni Libera, the outstanding writer, translator, director, and expert on the work of Samuel Beckett. The conversation with Tomasz Wiśniewski will cover many matters but is sure to include Shakespeare, Racine, and Sophocles.
At 15.00, the scene moves to the Sopoteka where Karolina Trapp from Seattle will open an exhibition of her photography entitled Fragmenty świata. Close nearby, Martin Blaszk and students of English will conduct a happening based called The Complete Works. As ever, it is hard to predict what may happen during a happening – on this occasion inside the Sopot railway station building itself.
On other days of the Festival, we particularly recommend: a meeting with the poet and translator Jerzy Jarniewicz; theatre workshops in English; performance-readings; a discussion with young workers in the theatre; and the fourth part of Mickiewicz’s Dziady in a production by Teatr Wierszalin.
